From the Archive: Renewal

Charlotte Willard   -

“You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires, to be made new in the attitude of your minds, and put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.”

Ephesians 4.22-24

It’s finally spring! A time of all things new again. We see the flowers coming into bloom; the tree leaves popping out of their branches, and the sound of birds chirping and singing the melody we love to hear.

But spring can also be a time to consider renewal of our hearts and minds. Scripture reminds us of our duty to keep our hearts pure and holy before the Lord. I believe there are times in our lives when we should take inventory to what we expose our eyes and ears. Proverbs 4.23 says: “Keep your heart with all diligence for out of it are the issues of life.” We must guard against the things that would tarnish our souls, whether it be the things we watch on TV, the music we listen to, or even the kind of friends with whom we connect.

The Christian life requires us to be diligent in doing what we know to be right . . . lest we be caught unaware!

We may need to do some mental housecleaning. Let’s make this spring a season of renewal!
