From the Archive: Guidance

“I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with Mine eye.”

Psalm 32.8

When I read of God using His eye to guide us, this Scripture brings my mother to mind. I grew up in an era when authority was respected, and my mother knew how to keep us under her control just by looking at us. All she had to do was look our way, and we could read in her eyes exactly what she meant. When we got “the look,” we didn’t dare follow our own will for fear of her disapproval. If we went to someone’s house for a visit, we were supposed to be seen and not heard unless spoken to first. If we were offered cake or ice cream we didn’t dare accept before looking at mom for approval.

I believe that is the way it is with our Lord. If we look to the Lord for guidance He will let us know what is the right way for us. He knows the road ahead. He sees the pitfalls, the curves, and even the speed bumps that would deter us from doing the right thing. God has His own special way of showing us the right path to take if our desire is to please Him. He will guide us with His eye.

Scripture says in Psalm 34:15 that “The eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous, and His ear is open to their cry.” This is the Lord’s promise to His children. He sees and hears our prayers and He promises to watch over us.

If you want God’s approval, let Him guide you with His eye!
